Continuing Stage Door's line of Deluxe Edition Broadway Cast Album reissues is an expanded release of Harold Rome's 1962 musical 'I Can Get it for You Wholesale'. Featuring music and lyrics by Rome and book by Jerome Weidman (based on his 1937 novel of the same title) ' I Can Get it for You Wholesale', produced by David Merrick and directed by Arthur Laurents, opened at New York's Shubert Theatre on March 22nd 1962, later transferring to the Broadway Theatre, and ran a total of 300 performances. Set in the New York City Garment District during the Great Depression, the plot centres on Harry Bogen, an ambitious young businessman and follows his escapades in attempting to ascend the industry ladder, no matter what the cost. The production starred Elliott Gould alongside Lillian Roth, Marilyn Cooper, Ken LeRoy, Harold Lang, Bambi Linn and Barbra Streisand (Tony nominated for "Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical" for her role as Miss Marmelstein). Presented across 2CDs, the release presents the Original Broadway Cast Recording, newly remastered from stereo reel-to-reel tape, alongside the show's original demo recordings. The release includes a bonus disc of cover recordings from 'I Can Get it For You Wholesale' including a never before released on CD instrumental album by Sy Oliver and His Orchestra. The disc also includes a plethora of pop covers from Harold Rome's score by such artists as Tony Bennett, Robert Goulet, Jerry Vale and Edmundo Ros. The release is further complemented with detailed sleeve notes by Broadway historian and Harold Rome scholar George Dansker.
